THE KAHALA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION

Our organization is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with membership open to all parents, administration, faculty and staff of Kahala Elementary School.  The primary goal of the Paremt Teacher Organization (PTO) is to improve the quality of our students’ education through parent volunteers and fundraising.  Parents who are interested in assisting the school should contact the PTO officers, our PCNC Facilitator, or the office.

The PTO supports many school services and programs, including:

  • art

  • music

  • drama

  • physical education

  • campus beautification projects

  • Technology support services

We exist for all of our kids!  Our Kahala PTO supports educational excellence for the children.  The quality of education at Kahala School depends on the financial support and volunteer efforts of the PTO.  Each year the Hawaii State Department of Education provides funding to Kahala School for basic budgeted items; but it’s never enough to cover the full cost of educating each student, nor for handling the considerable overhead, nor for improving the quality of campus life, nor for doing the special things it takes for maintaining morale and preserve important working relationships in the school community.

Our goal each year is to raise and distribute $75,000. Here’s how you can make a contribution.   $75,000 works out to $200 per student, per school year.  You can donate the amount directly to the PTO and leave it in the PTO mailbox in the school office.  Or you can support various activities the PTO offers annually.  This year, our two major fundraisers are Foodland Give Aloha and School Kine Cookies Sale.

The Foodland Give Aloha fundraiser really offers the best bang for your buck.  If you’re planning to donate $200 for your student, please consider donating through this program, because Foodland matches a portion of your contribution.  Remember, the more money donated to Kahala Elementary, through Foodland, the higher the matching funds Kahala receives!

You may be asked during the school year to get involved with various activities and events.  Please consider providing “parent power” for one of these events and get your kids involved too!  It’s great for them to see their parents modeling what it takes to give time, money and energy to a worthwhile cause.  Studies have shown that parent involvement has shown to in community service reinforces General Learner Outcome (GLO) #2, which states that students should be community contributors.

We are trying to avoid inundating with too many volunteer commitments to satisfy our manpower needs.  So if every parent provides “parent power” for at least one project this year, we’ll be able to accomplish all our goals!  Committe Chairs come from within the PTO as well as parents that are not on the Board,  certain fundraisers, so committee chairs and volunteers for each fundraiser come from all levels of the school community.

The Kahala Parent-Teacher Organization is a great way to get to know more about your child’s school and find out what is needed to keep it the excellent institution of learning that it is. We encourage everyone in the school to participate in fundraisers and activities no matter who the proceeds go to.  If we all give a little, EVERYONE benefits.
